Mixing Patterns

When in doubt on mixing patterns Polka Dots and Stripes ALWAYS work! Hey Y'all 😬 Hope you guys enjoyed your Tequila, Taco, Tuesday! I sure did. Can we talk about how my booty is flourishing in these stripe pants though! Lol jk jk 👀

I am such a big fan of patterns. My wardrobe includes stripes, floral, polka dots, chevron, gingham, camo, leopard, paisley, and many more. Most people always get discouraged or confused on how to mix patterns, but it's super simple because there really isn't a correct way. As I always say, DO YOU. You can wear whatever you want, 🤷🏽‍♀️ as long as you wear it with confidence. There are so many shitty rules out there about "what not to wear" when mixing patterns, but who pay your bills though? Aw, K. I wear what I like, when I like.

Check out some of the ways I mix my patterns below:

Stripes

I mix stripes with everything! From Polka Dots (my fav) to Plaid. Stripes always seem to balance any outfit. If you're a pattern mixing beginner, stripes should be your go to piece.

Same print different color

Sometimes I just transpose the colors. Color is important to me when it comes to mixing patterns. You can def pull off a red leopard skirt with a regular leopard top. This makes your outfit stand out and create a visual interest w/o too much going on.

Spread your prints out

Yes, you can wear an entire printed outfit if you like, but depending on the occasion, I personally like to add in a neutral to ground my look. So if I'm going to a professional meeting and still want to look jazzy, I would do a printed blazer, a neutral shirt & shoe, with printed pants.

Larger prints with smaller prints

If I wear the same print (polka dot shirt/polka dot pants) I always make sure one print is bigger than the other one. Doesn't matter if it's the same color or not. I don't feel as if the outfit stands out if the prints are all the same size.

Start Small

I understand everyone isn't comfortable with mixing patterns. So you can always start small even if you just want to wear a stripe shirt with a leopard purse or patterned tights. It's always smart to start with accessories until you're comfortable.
